Reviews and Ratings
I had a mixed experience at this hotel. While the room over the beach was quite outdated and needed a facelift, after complaining, I was given a refurbished room. However, the noise was a downside. The service, including the colonial uniform at Mount Lavinia, was exceptional with beautiful views, but some aspects remained unresponsive. The location, despite needing spring cleaning in the eating area and being crowded by crows, offered a beautiful sea view. The dining experience at Governor's near the pool was outstanding with a wide selection. The facilities were decent overall.
The hotel had all the amenities like TV, kettle, hairdryer, safe, etc. , but the rooms are a little dated and need a touch-up. The service is very attentive and warm, with staff going out of their way to ensure a great experience. The location is amazing for those wanting to stay right beside the sea, with exceptional views over the Indian Ocean. The dining experience is excellent, especially for lovers of local curries. The facilities are really good, although waiting for room maintenance was an issue.
My stay at the hotel had its ups and downs. The location was quiet and not too crowded, which I enjoyed. However, the rooms were old and dingy with several defects that made my experience less than ideal. The service was kind and friendly, but the crow situation caused some inconvenience during my stay.
I had a fantastic view of the ocean from my room, overlooking the sea. The excellent breakfast offered everything I could want, and it was great, paired with a fantastic view. However, the rooms are very badly maintained, look dated, and are not clean.
The hotel exuded a charming semi-historic feel in a beautiful colonial building. The rooms were pleasant with old-style fixtures, though the twin beds pushed together were a minor downside. The service was impeccable, guided by a fantastic team that made my stay truly memorable. The location, while a bit out of town, offered stunning ocean vistas and a serene atmosphere. Dining was a mix of local and foreign cuisine, but could use some variety. Overall, a delightful experience with a few minor hiccups.
The hotel offers buffets that are to die for at very reasonable prices, but the rooms are in need of a serious upgrade and badly maintained. Despite the room quality, the polite and attentive service made our stay more comfortable.
The hotel offers a mixed experience with tired rooms needing renovation but very helpful service. The location is superb for beach lovers, and the dining options are impressive. However, the facilities could use some improvement.
I had a mixed experience at the hotel. While the rooms weren't as clean as I expected, they did offer a truly amazing view overlooking the sea. The excellent breakfast provided everything I could want, and it was convenient to have the restaurant accessible from the pool area to our room.
The hotel is situated on a beautiful beach with stunning views over the Indian Ocean and up the coast to Colombo. The rooms are quite outdated and need a facelift, but the food choices are fabulous. However, the service for amenities like towel replacement lacks hospitality. Needs a major refurb for its location and age.
Staying at this hotel was a wonderful experience overall. The rooms were outstanding with varied cuisine offerings but had a slight smell of stale smoke. The service was wonderful, and the location is perfect if you want to be near the city and the beach. Dining was pretty wide, especially when sitting outside by the pool, but desserts were disappointing.
My stay at the hotel was absolutely delightful! The rooms were very private with stunning ocean views, comfortable, and clean. The staff at the Governors restaurant, especially Mr Nilantha and his team, provided exceptional service that made me feel like part of their family. While the location was beautiful and serene, the dining experience lacked some variety in the menu.
I was blown away by the direct view of the sea from my room, looking straight up the beach toward Colombo - absolutely stunning. The balcony really did have a great view and was of a decent size, making my stay truly special. However, the service left something to be desired, with multiple requests for napkins and forks feeling like a hassle. The location on the Paradise beach of Mount Lavinia was stunning, right by the sea, but there were some slight issues with the service.
I had a mixed experience at the hotel. The rooms offered great ocean views and privacy, but the confusion with room changes left me questioning the service quality. The staff were attentive and helpful, possibly due to the mandatory service charge. I would consider returning for the beautiful colonial building and excellent service, but there were some issues with room changes.
Although the room provided initially was not as expected, it was comfortable. The mold in the shower was a downside, and the room setup for two people was convenient. The standards of the rooms are adequate but may not justify the high price, including the average breakfast.
My stay at the hotel was overall pleasant. The rooms were nice and clean, equipped with a huge bed and a lovely balcony that offered a beautiful view of the ocean. However, the room change the following day with little explanation was a bit confusing. The service was great, especially by manager Endra, and the pool, private beach, and setting were delightful. The location had a nice aspect over the sea, although some areas were poorly maintained. The dining experience was excellent, with a variety of delicious food. The facilities were satisfactory, though some areas needed better maintenance.
